Meet the Finalists: Excellence in Manufacturing 2026

Sep 18, 2026

The Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce – 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards finalists have been announced and Aspeq couldn't be prouder of the businesses stepping into the spotlight.

Last week at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club, the finalists for this year's Excellence in Business Awards were revealed at the Finalist Function and we're proud to share the businesses that have made the cut in the category we're proud to sponsor: Excellence in Manufacturing.

Congratulations to:

  • Times-7: Lower Hutt-based Times-7 is a finalist for its high-performance antenna and radio frequency technology, which it designs and manufactures for customers around the world.

  • Preston Foods: Preston Foods, part of the family-owned Preston Corp that has operated in Wellington since 1904, is a finalist for supplying quality meat products and custom mince blends to Wellington’s hospitality sector.

  • Steel E.D. & Patton: Steel E.D. & Patton is a finalist for its engineering and steel fabrication work.

  • KiwiStar Optics: KiwiStar Optics is a finalist for its precision optical components and manufacturing expertise.

  • Uniplas NZ: Lower Hutt plastics manufacturer Uniplas NZ is a finalist for its end-to-end design, tooling, moulding, assembly and packaging services, and for generating around 70% of its power from solar panels at its Taita site.

These businesses represent the very best of what Wellington Region manufacturing has to offer: precision, ambition, and the discipline to meet standards that matter. It's exactly the calibre of business Aspeq set out to celebrate when we backed this category.

In Hamish's words

"There's real ambition in the Wellington manufacturing sector right now, and it deserves a spotlight. Meeting these finalists last night confirmed exactly why Aspeq wanted to be part of this category, not just to sponsor it, but to be in the room when these businesses get recognised. Congratulations to all three finalists, we're excited to see who takes out the win." — Hamish Findlay, CE, Aspeq

What's next

All three finalists now go head-to-head for the Excellence in Manufacturing title at the Gala Dinner on 20 November at the Lower Hutt Events Centre, where Aspeq will present the award on the night.

Congratulations again to everyone who entered this year — reaching finalist stage in a category this competitive is an achievement in itself. We'll see you at the Gala.
