The Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand (AIA) Conference, hosted at the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, marked a milestone for the aviation sector, drawing its largest post-COVID attendance of 350 participants. Aspeq proudly sponsored this pivotal event, with eight team members and three board members in attendance. The conference featured impactful presentations from the Minister of Transport and the CAA Director, providing deep insights into the industry’s future.
Here are some of the event's key highlights:
- Regulatory Updates: A major focus was the forthcoming Civil Aviation Act, which will take effect in April 2025. Attendees engaged in in-depth discussions with the CAA, exploring the anticipated changes and their implications.
- Networking Opportunities: The conference facilitated exceptional networking, connecting participants with influential figures such as the Minister of Transport and the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority.
- Expert-Led Discussions: The event featured numerous expert-led sessions, including a Safety Manager’s Workshop designed to bolster safety through peer support networks. The Divisional program also provided valuable insights, with presentations on future pilot demand and the challenges of instructor shortages, areas of particular interest for the Aspeq team.
- UAVNZ Symposium: Running parallel to the main conference, the UAVNZ Symposium delved into the commercial UAV industry. Discussions covered the global UAV market, training and testing drone operators, and managing UAV operations risks. Aspeq is collaborating with UAVNZ on an upcoming testing program.
- Awards Dinner: The Awards Dinner, held at the Air Force Museum, was a spectacular event with the meal served amongst the aircraft. The evening was particularly exceptional as the AIA awarded Mike Lynskey (Aspeq Director Business Development) the Individual Award for his contribution to the development of the New Zealand aviation industry, demonstrating high standards, dedication and commitment, and inspiring others.
In summary, the conference was a highly engaging and informative experience, offering valuable insights, robust networking opportunities, and discussions poised to influence the future of aviation in New Zealand.
