Aspeq proudly welcomed a group of young women from St Matthew's Collegiate School as part of the ShadowTech programme, offering an inspiring glimpse into the diverse and dynamic world of technology careers.
ShadowTech connects young women in years 9-11 with local tech companies to discover that working in technology extends far beyond coding. The initiative aims to inspire young women to explore Aotearoa's fastest-growing and highest-paid sector through hands-on experience, workplace tours, and authentic career storytelling.
The full-day programme at Aspeq's offices showcased the breadth of tech industry roles, from project management and innovation to cybersecurity and data analytics. Students participated in interactive activities designed to demonstrate real-world applications of technology skills, including a project management challenge, innovation workshop, and security risk identification exercise.
David, Head of Product at Aspeq, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative:
"We're passionate about opening doors for the next generation of tech talent. It's crucial that young women see themselves in these roles and understand the incredible variety of career paths available in technology. Today wasn't just about showing what we do, it was about igniting curiosity and demonstrating that there's a place in tech for every type of thinker and problem-solver. The questions we received throughout the day showed just how engaged and capable these students are."
The day featured presentations from Aspeq team members, who shared insights into their career pathways and the skills that matter most in tech roles today.
And of course, no visit to Aspeq would be complete without a stop at the office's hot chocolate machine, a small but memorable highlight that students won't soon forget!
Through programmes like ShadowTech, Aspeq continues its commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive technology sector, one young innovator at a time.
