Aspeq presented at the 2019 Royal Aeronautical Society Symposium on 1 November. We were also one of the sponsors of the symposium. The focus of the day was “Challenges Facing Aviation” and there was a good range of local and international speakers. The symposium was opened by the Minister of Transport, Hon Phil Twyford, who discussed some the challenges in military and civil aviation. There were presentations on the future demand for pilots and engineers and Aspeq discussed the needs of the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAPs). The Asia Pacific region has the largest projected growth, with over 350,000 pilots and a similar number of engineers required over the next 20 years. This is a challenge that Aspeq is working with the industry to solve.
The symposium also included the annual dinner where many aviation industry participants were given awards for their contributions to the aviation industry. Peter Dixon, a long serving employee of Aspeq, was awarded a meritorious service award for over 30 years’ service as a flight examiner. During Pete’s 31 years as an examiner he has tested over 5,000 candidates for their pilots’ licences and has flown over 16,000 hours. The award was well deserved for a huge contribution to the aviation industry.
