Aspeq announced as finalist in Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards

Oct 20, 2023

Aspeq has been announced as a finalist in the Excellence in Technology and Innovation category at this year’s 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards.

The category recognises businesses that show excellence in the delivery or use of technology, or a business that has innovated to deliver its service or product.

Aspeq’s nomination stood out because it ticked both of these boxes, says its CE Hamish Findlay.

Aspeq delivers world-class, secure and reliable examination services. Its proprietary software manages candidate bookings and exam delivery that meets its clients’ rigorous requirements.

“What I think sets us apart is that we are always innovating in the way we deliver our services. Every year, we reinvest on improving our systems to ensure we retain an innovative edge.”

The innovative spirit is critical in a fast-changing and unpredictable world.

“For example, the COVID pandemic hit us hard because so many of our clients are in the aviation sector. But we were able to quickly pivot to focus on winning business in different sectors and new countries, which allowed us to rapidly bounce back,” says Hamish.

Aspeq has clients in 25 countries as well as a strong presence in New Zealand, including Waka Kotahi, NZ Police, FENZ and many other organisations that rely on high quality assessments to deliver vital services for New Zealand.

Despite its global presence, Hamish says that Aspeq is proud to call Lower Hutt home. It has a 58-strong team of permanent staff supported by over 250 contractors and dozens of local suppliers.

“We love being part of the Lower Hutt community and prioritise supporting local businesses, charities, and events.”

Aspeq supports its people to get involved in causes that are important to them, and looks for creative ways to give back to the community. For example, a recent team away day included a bridge building competition made from non-perishable food items, which were then donated to the Lower Hutt Foodbank.

“These awards are a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to come together to celebrate the vibrant and successful community we all help to create. This nomination is a wonderful testament to the work we do and how we do it,” says Hamish.

Winners will be announced at an awards gala at the Lower Hutt Events Centre in November.
